Honors
The Rowland High School honors teachers and administration have a desire to provide access and support for students coming into and participating in the honors program. Our mission statement reflects this desire to increase the number of students participating while maintaining the high standards of the program. It was with this goal in mind that the "No D Policy" was determined to have value for the needs of our school. This policy will allow for RHS to:
- maintain a high standard throughout the program
- allow for clear exit criteria (removal from the program)
- provide opportunity for remediation through existing structures
Teachers will create the system they will utilize in their classroom, which will be communicated through their opening of school activities and syllabus. There will not be a "D" grade option in the honors program for the entire school year. This policy will be reviewed at the semester grading periods to assess the impact on student achievement.
Mission Statement:
Rowland High School's honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs strive to provide challenging experiences to students seeking higher academic standards, a more rigorous course of study, and better preparation for college. Opportunities in Rowland's honors programs are open to all students who wish to challenge themselves, improve their critical thinking skills, and have the potential to succeed.
Note - students must earn a passing grade at the end of the semester to maintain enrollment in the honors level course.
