Peer Counseling Club
Rowland High School’s Peer Counseling Club is a mental health advocacy group founded on the idea to provide students with a safe, stigma-free space that allows them the opportunity to talk about thoughts they may have. Along with that, our purpose is to spread awareness on various types of mental illness and teach peers the importance of coping.
Peer Counseling seeks to educate students on various mental disorders and ways to cope with them. All information passed along to members are collected from credible medical websites such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, National Institute of Mental Health, Mayo Clinic, and National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Although Peer Counseling is a fairly new on campus, we have been presented with a variety of opportunities that students can participate in which includes training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, participating in Wellness Workshops, training to become a Public Health Task Force representee, participating in various mental health awareness day or week activities, and many more.
Peer Counseling constructed a point system in order for officers to keep track of members’ participation on top of promoting mental health awareness and self care.
The club welcomes all students who are interested in learning about numerous mental disorders such as Anxiety or ADHD, finding ways to cope with their mental health, relieving stress they may experience, or simply wanting to interact with peers and meet new people
