Welcome to Physics and Physical Science
Phones are prohibited in the classroom. Phones follow a different consequence system. Phones must be put away. If they are seen on your desk or out and about. You are in violation of the phone policy.
- First violation - Classroom write up (documented); phone confiscated for the period
- Second violation - Classroom write up(documented), parent/guardian contact, phone confiscated till the end of lunch
- Third violation and beyond - Classroom write up, parent/guardian contact, referral ; phone confiscated till the end of lunch
Everything is documented. There are no resets. (except for the new semester. Your violations in the fall, will not affect your violations in the spring.) For example, if you violate the policy in August, and violate again in September, you are on your Second violation.
Refusal to give up the phone will result in Classroom write up and parent/guardian contact. Further refusal, you will be immediately sent to the office.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What if my student needs their phone for translations?
Students are always welcomed to use their chromebooks.
Q: What if my student needs their phone for an assignment?
Students may communicate with me about their specific situation and I will allow their phone for usage if absolutely necessary.
Q: What if my student is done with all their work?
Student may work on other classwork. If they are done with all other classwork, they may use their chromebook freely as long as it is school appropriate.
Q: What if their chromebook is broken?
Students may go to the library for a loaner. If there are no more loaners, students may share with another student.
Q: What if their chromebook is not charged?
The student has not come to class prepared. The student may charge their chromebook in the back. I loan out chargers, but students must trade me their phones. Students may have their phone back as soon as I get my charger back.
Q: Where are you keeping their phones?
I am putting their phones in a wooden box called "phone jail" This box is locked for security purposes. It holds up to 36 phones.
Q: Can they charge their phone in class? Can it be on their desk?
No. They should be charging their phones at home or not in my classroom. Also, students have shown they cannot handle their phone on their desk either, so I see it I confiscate it.
Q: Can they listen to music? What if they need to change a song?
During independent work time, they can listen to music as long as they ask me. They can change their song as long as they ask me. Communication is key. When in doubt just ask. If they want to change their song again, they need to ask EVERY TIME.
Q:What if they need their phone for another class?
They should have not gotten their phone confiscated in the first place. If it's their first time, their phone will only be confiscated for the period. However, if this is their 2nd time, they should be highly aware of the rules and unfortunately will not have access to their phone for their other class.
