Welcome to Room B-1's math class for the 2024-25 school year! We are happy to have you. ❤️

My name is Ms. Goodwin, and I strongly believe that everyone is capable of learning mathematics deeply provided sufficient resources, support, and guidance. The Claremont Teacher Education program has ingrained in me a passion for social justice - in particular, taking the time to get to know students as people and facilitating spaces that foster equitable interactions, opportunities, and systems. I look forward to helping students discover the immense power they possess to positively change the world around them.

MATH LEARNING

Welcome, Caregivers! Here are some details regarding how your child's math learning will be structured during our time together.

Class Format: We will engage in discussions and activities about essential learning and math content. There is a balanced mix of direct instruction, whole-class activities, small-group collaboration, etc. Students will be able to ask questions and receive individualized assistance during class and office hours (see information in green below).

📝  Structure of Work & Feedback: In class, we will do various learning activities together; a Pacing Calendar will help guide our learning throughout the course. Assignments will be graded on a weekly basis, though feedback will be given daily in the classroom setting. Students are highly encouraged to complete and submit work by specified due dates in order to ensure timely support and feedback.

    • Practice tasks are due by Fridays at 9:00 PM (unless otherwise specified)
please submit by taking a clear photo of the math work and turning it into the correct Google Classroom assignment or by handing it in during class on Friday
    • In-class assessments (checkpoints, unit exams) are due by the end of the period
    • Projects have individual due dates and submission instructions

If students should need additional time and/or assistance, they may finish up assignments on their own or during office hours.

🍎  Academic Integrity: Students are invited to collaborate with peers and receive help from the teacher during the learning process. This being said, we expect that all work and products submitted reflect the author's original thought and problem-solving.

Office Hours & Communication:  Students are encouraged to communicate questions, concerns, and needs during class time. Our office hours (O.H.) is time set aside for students to come by and connect, work on homework, or just have a conversation! Our classroom will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at lunchtime.

📧  If you should need clarification or have a specific question about our math class, please email me at [email protected]. Please allow 24-48 hours for a thoughtful response.
