About the App Challenge:
Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event intended to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM fields. This competition allows students to compete with peers in their own district by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app”, for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. The apps will be judged by a panel of local judges who work within the academic, software, and entrepreneurial fields.
The Awards Ceremony & Exhibit will be held at Nixon Presidential Library & Museum in November 2016 and will provide students with the opportunity to showcase their application and meet leaders in the tech industry
Noteworthy changes for this year:
1. We’ve opened up the competition to all students, instead of just those attending high school.
2. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has generously donated $50,000 in AWS credits to be divided among the winning students. Additionally, winning students will have their apps put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building on house.gov (10 million unique visitors per year), and other social media.
3. Representative Royce serves as the national Co-Chair for the Congressional App Challenge.
