New WASC visit is approaching quickly. The visiting committee will be here Sunday February 24th-Wednesday February 27th. Remember the Raider Goals: Thinkers, Communicators and Contributors. Also remember to wear your lanyards you received in your 5th period class.

New Parent Academy is Thursday February 7th in the Hideout 7:00pm. Invite your parents.
New Third Annual Dodgeball Tournament is this week: February 4th-February 8th. Come watch the teams play for only $1.00 a day. Friday the winning team will play the teachers!

New End of Day After 5th period- Drop of your card (before 10:30 a.m.) with Mrs. Raygoza in the front office and you will be able to pick it up at lunch break. Starting next week, if you don’t have the PASS on your ID card, you will not be allowed to leave campus at lunch time.  

New If you are interested in taking the Biliteracy Award Language Exam in Korean or Tagalog, please come to room P-22 by February 15 to sign up. The test will be given on Saturday, March 9 at 8:00 a.m. at Nogales High School.

New Come to the basketball games on Wednesday February 6th to see the dropping of the league banners for Football and cross country.

New Come to the basketball games on Friday February 8th in your Rowland Thunder t-shirt to receive a FREE hotdog and cheer on our teams as they play their last league games. Gift cards will be given out throughout the games open to any Rowland student. FREE to students with ASB cards and $5 without.

New Link Crew tailgate for freshmen on Friday February 8th starting at 5:00pm on the handball courts. Get FREE food for 9th graders.

New Juniors & Seniors: We will be offering the ASVAB on Monday, March 4th from 1-4pm (shortened day) in the library. For more information visit asvabprogram.com or talk to your counselor We will announce sign ups soon. 

New This year Rowland High School is teaming up with The Family Resource Center along with Kiwanis of Hacienda Heights to help with the Heart & Sole event of 2013 by hosting a Sock Drive here at school! The Heart & Sole event provides shoes and socks for 100 RUSD kids, ASB, Key Club and FHA will be collecting socks for the Sock Drive in the ASB office until Feb. 8! Socks of all sizes are accepted but they MUST be new.

The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) exams will take place for all 9-12 grade students on February 5th at 3:15 in room B-1. Last year, over 220,000 students around the world participated in these competitions and found them to be both fun and rewarding. Awards are given for top performers, and many top universities and technical institutions ask for AMC scores on their applications. See Mr. Girard in room B-1 or ask your math teacher if you have any questions.

New Yearbooks are now $90 with or without an ASB card. Only 65 more yearbooks available. 

ASB has school supplies for sale for discounted supplies.

You need to have a current parking permit. Come to the ASB Office to pick up an application.

Students: This is a reminder that you should bring your RHS school ID with you to school every day. It is needed to show office personnel, check out books, use computers, etc. 

Students may NOT paint your locker. If you paint your locker you will be charged a fee for vandalizing your locker. 
ASB sells birthday grams for $4.00 and delivered during 3rd  period. We also have baseball hats for $15.00 in various sizes. We also just received a shipment of spirit sweatshirts in all sizes. Various school supplies are also available for discounted prices.  Come see what we have to offer

New OSC- Operations Safe Communities Service Award for Rowland Unified Students. $500 service award scholarship. March 8, 2013 deadline. Eclipse Inc. African –American students, minimum 2.0 GPA. Deadline is March 9,2013 for submission.  See Mrs. Valdez or Mrs. Garcia.

New Mahatma Rice/Univision Scholarship. $2,000. Essay required. March 1st deadline. Visit MAHATMARICE.com/SoCalif for the application.

New 4th Annual San Gabriel Valley Youth Summit is on Saturday, March 23rd from 8am – 3:30pm in El Monte. Free workshops, food, music, t-shirt for those who attend. FORUS Foundation Scholarship. Graduating senior with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. $500 is the maximum amount. Applications are available from Mrs. Valdez and will be accepted Jan.1st-Feb.28th.

StudentScholarships.org is advertised as a free resource for students with a variety of scholarships. Remember that you do not have to pay to apply for a scholarship. More information at studentscholarships.org/scholarship.



Senior News

New We want to hear about your college acceptances. Bring your acceptance letters to your counselor so we can add you to the RAIDER SPOTLIGHT section of our website.

New Come on Monday February 11th  at lunch on the grass area to vote on the faculty you would like to walk with at graduation. Must have a ID card. This is FREE.

New Attention Seniors: If you think you have perfect attendance for all 4 years of high school and/or all 12 years of school, please come see Sylvia Salone in the attendance office.

New Grad Nite tickets go on sale till February 28th or till we run out of tickets. You MUST pay for the ticket when you turn in your permission slip. All bills need to be paid prior to purchasing the ticket.   We only have 300 tickets. Pick up a permission slip from the ASB Office. 

New February senior newsletter will be distributed in your English class this week.



Club News

New Spring Play Members - HEY! Are you part of of the Spring Play? If so, there will be a work day on Feburary 9th in Room A-14. It will be held from 9AM-2PM. 

New Raiders- Do like jokes, laughs, and fun? If so, come to the Comedy Sportz match on February 8th. It will be in Room A-14 from 7:00 PM. Get there early because tickets will sell out quickly! 

New Theatre Club Members- Come to the theatre club meeting in Room A-14. It is at lunch on February 7th.

New Comedy Sportz Members- There is a Comedy Sportz practice at lunch on Tuesday in Room A-14. There will also be an after school workshop held in Room A-14 on Thursday.

New Thespians- HEY! There is a thespian work day on February 7th from 3-4:30 PM. It is a great time to make new friends and meet old ones! It is in Room A-14.
